BOE Varitronix – About Us

Since the Company’s inception by a team of enterprising academics at the University of Hong Kong in 1978, Varitronix have grown to become one of the leading manufacturers of Liquid Crystal Displays through years of innovation in research, design, production scalability, and technology advancement.

Through the following years of finding local success, Varitronix envisioned a much larger scale operation for the ever-increasing demand for displays. The trajectory plan eventually led the Company to be officially listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1991 (HKSE code: 710), continuing its influence and strong presence to serve customers at the local, national, and global levels.

In 2016, BOE, an IoT company providing intelligent interface products and services for information interaction and human health, sought interest and became a major shareholder of Varitronix, which fueled the Company into the next great leap forward. BOE Varitronix, as the Company is now called, reflects purely on our integration leading to sustainable development in business, innovation technology, capital, and resource utilization.

Nearly half a century later, BOE Varitronix continues its time-honored tradition in providing the one stop shop for the latest display technologies, backed up by solid research and commitment to quality, customized to the individual needs, and delivered economically and efficiently.

1978

Varitronix is established by a group of Hong Kong University academics.

1983

Varitronix sets manufacturing in the PRC.

Varitronix establishes Los Angeles branch office.

1991

Varitronix is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

1993

Varitronix completes additional manufacturing site in Heyuan, Guangdong Province, PRC.

1995

Varitronix receives Quality Management System ISO:9001 certification.

1997

Varitronix launches displays for the Automotive market.

2001

Varitronix receives Automotive Quality System QS9000 certification.

2003

Added additional manufacturing campus in Heyuan Guangdong Province, PRC.

2004

Varitronix receives Automotive Quality Management System ISO/TS16949 certification.

2005

Varitronix receives Environmental Management System ISO14001 certification.

2007

Varitronix forms consortium with two other manufacturing companies to acquire South Korean based TFT manufacturer, Hydis.

2008

Varitronix celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Varitronix.

Varitronix receives Hazardous Substance Process Management System QC08000 certification.

2010

Received Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Management System OHSAS18000 certification.

2016

BOE Technology Group becomes a major shareholder of Varitronix, creating the BOE Varitronix brand in the next leap forward in display manufacturing and advancement.

2017

Completed Project Company in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, PRC Chengdu Project Company received IATF 16949 certification.

2018

Celebrated the 40th Anniversary of BOE Varitronix.

2022

Start the construction of Chengdu automotive module production base and mass production in October.

Further Subscription of Varitronix’s shares by BOE Technology Group.

2023

The shares of the Company are selected and included as a constituent stock of the following index series by Hang Seng Indexes Company Limited and Hong Kong Stock Connect:
